Exploring Brussels with Books

Travel blogger Ingrid Dendievel from Road Tripping Europe photographed Avalon and Drowned Sorrow against the backdrop of famous Brussels' attractions. Here are some of her pictures. To see the full, original post, visit: Exploring Brussels with a Horror Writer. Enjoy!

The "Monument aan Everard 't Serclaes" sits near the Grande Place. Legend has it that when you rub the statue, it will bring you good luck.

Sint-Katelijneplein is one of Ingrid's favorite places in Brussels. It's also where the yearly Christmas market takes place.

The restaurants of the Beenhouwersstraat draw many tourists... and cats.

The Grasmarkt is a small square near La Grande Place. The statue of Charles Bules turned out to be a nice resting place for Avalon.

tropismes brussels

Ingrid describes the bookshop Tropismes as "a bookshop with grandeur," as the ceiling is a work of art. Can you spot Avalon in the selection of books?

Le Cerceuil is French for The Coffin. It's a dark café where you sit around coffins and drink beer and cocktails out of skulls. A perfect place to photograph a supernatural thriller such as Drowned Sorrow.

Have you ever explored Brussels? What are your favorite places and attractions?

Let me introduce them:

Julia Ostertag - who won at several film festivals, will have her world premiere at the BUTFF with the film film Dark Circus. Julia is a director, cinematographer, editor en and has her own 'one-woman film production company'. She is known for her experimental films and focusses on subcultures, music, alternative lifestyles, and female sexuality.

Johan Vandewoestijne aka James Desert, a cult filmmaker from Belgium, is not afraid of some controversy. Best known for his films Lucker the Necrophagous and Rabid Grannies. He is back with his highly anticipated flick Laundry Man.

Kasper Juhl got his first camera at the age of eight and has since been passionate about making films. He is known as the founder of the controversial independent film company Hellbound Productions, where he has directed, written and produced several horror films. In 2013 he went to The European Film College. He has since written and directed the feature film Gudsforladt (english title: A God Without A Universe) which premiered last year on CPH:PIX film festival and won the Best Feature award at last year's BUT Film Festival.

About eight years ago, Jeroen Bijl started his YouTube channel Horrible Reviews. This channel is mostly dedicated to reviewing all kinds of B-horror, exploitation and cult cinema. Now, the channel has over 100,000 subscribers, and he keeps providing the viewers with both obscure and some more well-known movies and filmmakers in a both entertaining and informative manner.
